July is celebrated internationally as U.V. Safety Month! While enjoying our warmer days outdoors this summer, it's important to be aware of the skin and eye damage that can be caused by excessive exposure to the sun's U.V. rays.
This month was designated as U.V. Safety Month by the American Academy of Opthalmology (AAO) to remind people to protect their eyes.
"In support of UV Safety Month this July, the American Academy of Ophthalmology reminds the public of the importance of shielding eyes from the sun's harmful rays with 100% UV-blocking sunglasses and broad-brimmed hats."
The American Academy of Dermatology likewise recommends the public #PracticeSafeSun year-round with three simple steps outdoors:
Seek shade
Wear sun-protective clothing
Apply a broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher
Enjoy your summer while keeping your eyes and skin protected from the sun this year!
